About Shakuhachi
The shakuhachi is a very simple instrument.
It is simply a piece of bamboo cut and drilled with five holes.
However, its tone is very rich and attractive.
You may not be familiar with the instrument itself, but you must have heard it naturally on television.
Even if you have never heard a live performance, don’t you feel nostalgic somehow?
Recently, many women are starting to play, and most of them have no musical experience.

About our shakuhachi school policy
Lessons begin with the basics such as how to hold, blow, and read music.
We start with easy pieces such as children’s songs and shoka, and depending on your preference, we can offer shakuhachi solo pieces such as classical pieces, ensemble pieces with koto, pop music, lessons in five-line notation, and more.
For Beginners
If you don’t know much about the shakuhachi but are interested in it, or if you want to try it but think it looks too difficult ……
It is true that the Shakuhachi is not an instrument that can produce sound from the beginning, but everyone is able to produce sound after taking a few lessons.
As mentioned above, the charm of the Shakuhachi is its tone.
First of all, let’s work together to produce the sound well!
At our school, we give lessons from the very beginning.
We teach how to hold the instrument, how to make sounds, how to read instruments for the shakuhachi, and so on.
We use textbooks for beginners and conduct lessons according to them, so you can learn with ease.
The instructor also teaches in a university club.
Students who come in are almost all inexperienced, so we have the know-how for beginners.
About the Experienced
Of course, experienced shakuhachi players are welcome in our class!
You may have played in the past, but now that you have settled down at work, you want to start playing again, you have been self-taught for a while but want to be taught properly, or you want to learn more fundamentals. ……
There are a variety of people here, including those who have been doing this for a long time, but have taught themselves for a while and want to be taught properly.
We listen to you carefully and give lessons on songs you are interested in.
We play classical music, contemporary music, and songs of completely different genres depending on the person.
Of course, we also accept requests to start over from the basics.
We do not force our students to play the songs they are interested in.
We believe that it is best for students to play what they are interested in, so we always ask for your permission before deciding on a song for the lesson.
We are also available for consultation regarding performance.
It is a “bad habit” that you don’t notice by yourself.
Even if you are aware of them, there may be a completely different cause than you think.
We can help you resolve any problems you may have in your playing, such as the way you produce sound, bad habits in your playing, and other things you may not be aware of!
